## Overview

When markets, regulation or technology change quickly, waiting for certainty is a decision too. These facilitated programmes help teams map what they do not know, test their assumptions, prepare for several futures and practise responding to a crisis as it unfolds.

### The business problem

Plans are often built on a single forecast. When reality moves away from it, teams either freeze while they wait for more information, or carry on with a plan that no longer fits. Risks that people privately worried about are rarely discussed openly, because nobody wants to sound negative.

### How we run it

**Diagnose.** We identify the uncertainties that matter most for your plans: markets, customers, suppliers, regulation, technology or people. **Design.** We combine the right tools: a scenario-planning workshop to explore several plausible futures, a pre-mortem and red-team session to stress-test a plan, or a crisis simulation with live injects. **Run.** The facilitator keeps discussions concrete: what would we see early, what would we do, and what can we decide now that works in most futures. **Debrief.** Teams look at their assumptions and blind spots, and how they behaved under pressure. **Follow-up.** You leave with a short list of early-warning signals, agreed triggers and actions, and we review them after 60 and 90 days.

### Formats

- **Half day:** a pre-mortem and red-team session on a specific plan or project.
- **Full day:** a scenario-planning workshop ("four futures for your industry") or a crisis war-room simulation with a full debrief.
- **2–3 day offsite:** scenarios, stress tests and a crisis simulation combined, ending with an updated plan and agreed triggers.

### How we measure impact, honestly

We record the assumptions, signals and triggers the team agrees, so they can be checked against what actually happens. A short pulse survey before and after asks how prepared people feel for different outcomes. At the 60 and 90-day reviews we look at which signals appeared, whether the triggers worked and what the team would change.

## Who it's for

- Leadership teams preparing strategy or budgets in a volatile market
- Project and programme boards before a major investment or launch
- Crisis management, risk and business continuity teams
- Regional teams facing regulatory, currency or supply changes

## What's included

- Interviews and a short survey to identify the key uncertainties
- Programme design with scenario, pre-mortem or crisis-simulation tools
- Senior facilitator and, for simulations, a game-master team and inject scripts
- Written scenarios, assumptions list, signals and triggers
- Debrief report with observations from the simulation
- Reviews after 60 and 90 days

## Sample agenda

- **Day 1 What we do not know** Mapping the key uncertainties, building four plausible futures and describing what each would mean for the business.
- **Day 2 Stress-testing the plan** Pre-mortem and red-team session on the current plan, then a crisis war-room simulation in the afternoon with a full debrief.
- **Day 3 Ready for several futures** Decisions that work in most scenarios, early-warning signals and triggers, owners and review dates.

## Questions

### Is scenario planning the same as forecasting?

No. A forecast tries to predict one future. Scenarios describe several plausible futures so you can find decisions that work across them and know which signals to watch.

### Will a pre-mortem make the team negative about the plan?

In our experience it does the opposite. Imagining that the plan has failed makes it safe to raise concerns, and the session ends with concrete actions that make the plan stronger.

### How realistic are the crisis simulations?

Realistic enough to create pressure: news updates, calls from stakeholders and new facts arrive every few minutes. We avoid anything that could genuinely distress participants and agree the scenario with you in advance.

### Can we use a real crisis from our past?

We can use it as inspiration, but we usually change the details so the debrief is about behaviour and decisions, not about who was responsible at the time.
