# Minefield Command

> A coordination version of the classic minefield: blindfolded walkers are guided across a field of obstacles by a navigator who only receives information from a spotter. Duration: 40 minutes. ## Objective

Practise clear, structured communication across a chain of roles when information has to pass through several people.

## Materials

- An open space with soft obstacles (cones, cushions, rope)
- Blindfolds
- A rope or tape to mark the boundary
- A timer

## Step by step

1. Set up a field of soft obstacles about 10 × 10 m and mark a start and finish.
2. Form teams of three: a blindfolded walker, a navigator who stands behind the start line facing away from the field, and a spotter who can see the field but may only speak to the navigator.
3. The spotter describes the field to the navigator, who gives instructions to the walker. Touching an obstacle means returning to the start.
4. After the first crossing, give teams three minutes to agree a better communication protocol (for example agreed words for steps and directions).
5. Run a second crossing, rotating roles, and compare times and restarts.
6. Debrief: what got lost between spotter and navigator, and what made the protocol work?

## Facilitator tips

- Safety first: soft obstacles only, a slow walking pace, and a facilitator walking near the blindfolded players.
- Encourage teams to use read-backs ("two steps left, confirm") and see the difference.
