How we estimate
Great-circle distance
The shortest distance between the two airports. Real routes are a little longer, which the time and CO₂e figures allow for.
Block time
Distance at about 780 km/h plus 30 minutes for taxi and climb. When a direct flight is unlikely we add 2 h 30 for a connection.
Indicative fares
Typical economy return ranges by distance band, in EUR, converted to your currency. Fares swing with season, dates and booking time.
CO₂e per traveller
UK Government (DESNZ) conversion factors for economy flights, including the non-CO₂ effects of flying. Rounded, no false precision.
Methodology and limits
- Distance: haversine great-circle distance between airport coordinates, rounded to 10 km.
- Time: distance ÷ 780 km/h + 30 min taxi; + 2 h 30 when a connection is likely. One way, airport to airport, rounded to 5 min.
- "Likely direct" is a simple rule, not a timetable: either airport is a big hub (Istanbul IST/SAW, Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi) within non-stop range, or both are major airports less than 3,000 km apart. Smaller airports (Cappadocia, Trabzon) only from cities with known year-round flights.
- Fares: indicative economy return per person by distance band, in EUR, converted with our display rates. Not a price offer.
- CO₂e: about 0.25 kg per passenger-km under 800 km, 0.15 kg up to 3,700 km and 0.14 kg beyond, economy, including radiative forcing; +8% for real routes vs great-circle; +15% distance for connections. Return trip, rounded to 10 kg.
