Drum circle

Guests walk in to find an instrument on every seat: darbukas, djembes, frame drums, bells and shakers, arranged in sections. Our lead facilitator starts with simple call-and-response patterns, then splits the room into sections that play different parts, so the group builds a layered rhythm piece step by step. Nobody needs any musical experience.

Along the way the facilitator brings in a few deliberate moments: one section has to hold the beat while another changes it, a volunteer conducts the whole room, and the group finishes a piece without any signal from the front. These moments tend to be what people mention in the coffee break afterwards.

The session works as a conference opener, a way to restart energy after lunch, or on a beach at sunset. It runs for groups from 15 to several hundred; above 150 we add a second facilitator and a sound system.
