On the Saiq Plateau of Jebel Akhdar, the "Green Mountain", villages cling to the edge of a deep canyon above terraces of pomegranates, walnuts and roses. This guided walk links several of them along a marked path with wide views.

Along the way your guide explains the falaj irrigation channels that have watered these terraces for centuries, and the group stops in a village for coffee. In spring, usually from late March to April, the rose harvest is under way and some families distil rosewater in traditional ways.

The walk takes about three hours at an easy pace with some steps and uneven sections, and works well as a morning activity during a mountain retreat.
