Most visitors stay on the European side, but the Asian shore has some of Istanbul's most charming neighbourhoods. The walk begins on the Üsküdar waterfront, facing the Maiden's Tower, and visits the Ottoman mosques and fountains of the old centre.

The route then follows the Bosphorus to Kuzguncuk, a village-like quarter of painted wooden houses where a mosque, churches and a synagogue stand a few steps apart. The walk ends with tea and simit in a garden café, and can be combined with a boat back to the European side or a dinner on the Asian shore.

About 4 km at an easy pace, mostly flat along the shore, with some cobbled and sloping streets in Kuzguncuk. Mosque visits require modest dress, and women cover their hair inside.
